A little history
The name, Cyril Bason, comes from the man who started the business way back in 1963.
Cyril began by buying large numbers of point of lay chickens and selling them on in smaller lots. He also started selling a few broilers for those who required them. This began as a fairly local affair supplying Shropshire and Mid Wales from the back of his Mini van.
As business grew, Cyril took on a young apprentice to help with the rounds. David Evans joined in 1968 at the tender age of just 14. He enjoyed trundling around the farms with Cyril learning about the chickens and the people who farmed them.
In 1971 when David passed his driving test, he started to do deliveries on his own and continued to build on the relationship with the customers that he had already started to develop as Cyril’s “sidekick” over the previous years.
Cyril Bason became a Limited Company (Cyril Bason (Stokesay) Ltd) in 1975 and the young man David Evans, became a director at the age of just 21.
In 1977 Cyril expanded into a different trade and bought an ironmongery shop in Craven Arms town. This also provided useful offices for the poultry business. This fantastic old fashioned hardware and ironmongery shop is still there and the rooms upstairs still house the poultry business offices.
It was decided that Cyril would run the hardware and ironmongery shop while David would be in charge of the poultry side of the business.
Both sides of the business went from strength to strength and the catchment area for poultry sales continued to expand.
Fifteen years later, in 1992, David bought the entire business and became Managing Director when Cyril retired. Soon after this, David’s wife, Wendy joined her husband as a Director.
In recent years, David has appointed his daughter, Sharon to the position of Company Secretary and his son Daniel has joined the team out on the road delivering.
A long time has passed since Cyril and David first drove around a few Welsh farms in a Mini van. Now there are 6 vans and the Company employ full time dedicated staff drivers. Indeed all of our drivers are caring, experienced and qualified and also have NFU livestock handling certificates.
The offices are manned by a dedicated and very friendly team who are always on hand to take orders, offer advice, or even just have a chat about poultry.
Although Cyril Bason (Stokesay) Ltd use cutting edge computer technology in customer ordering and flock traceability, we still retain that person to person relationship that has helped the business grow into one of the country’s most recognised names in poultry.
We supply small numbers of poultry for the hobbyist or large flock numbers for the professional poultry farmer.
